What are the Chemistry and Health Benefits of Green Tea?

Chemically, green tea contains vital trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, molybdenum, sodium, phosphorus, and cobalt, as well as important amino acids like glutamic acid, tryptophan, glycine, valine, and leucine.

Additionally, it contains essential carbohydrates and, most importantly, 30% of its dry weight consists of polyphenolic components like flavanols, also known as catechins, which are responsible for its diverse range of health advantages. All this confirms switching to green tea could be a positive step towards a healthier lifestyle.

Consumption of green tea also helps improve the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol hence plays a key role in prevention of heart diseases. Caffeine content of green tea combined with amino acid L-theanine enhances brain functions so can serve to lower the risk of Alzheimers and Parkinson’s disease.

Green tea helps in maintaining sugar metabolism and hence useful for management of diabetes. Along with all these important benifial effects it is also a mood enhancer and relaxant, helps in weight management also has antiviral and antibacterial properties. Summing up, it can be easily inferred that consumption of green tea in moderate levels has vast health benefits and it’s a magical boon for our health problems.
